Oil Pump Driveshaft
Oil Pump driveshaft is slightly too short for clearance reasons.
The shaft falls into the centering hole in the crankshaft, leading to partial engagement of the splines, and thus sometimes very rapid wear leading to failure.
- There are three versions, an original rather shorter one, where there was a metal spacer in the crank (of no real use), and the later ones; the final version having longer splines and a larger shaft diameter but of the same length.

- In addition (per Brodule): The simple solution is a hp-pump output pipe seal, cut in to a one third height cylinder, inserted in the crank. It is flexible, and will compress just as much as is needed, but locate the shaft correctly. This should be done even with the final design.
Never put anything solid in to shim the oil pump shaft. I have seen this destroy oil pumps by end loading the rotor too much.
